Susan Colien Reid
Susan Colien Reid is a classically trained violinist who once debuted a concerto written by NZ composer Gary Brain. Susan took up guitar in her early 20's and started writing songs using strong melodic lines from her love of orchestration. Susan formed her stage entity Black Eyed Susie " in 2001 to platform her many original songs .Susan performed support for The "Alabama Blind Boys" when they performed in Wellington at St James theatre .During this period Susan also supported US blues celebrity 'Mike Hammond".
Susan has continued writing songs many of which have featured on Radio New Zealand and other NZ alternative stations.
Black Eyed Susie NZ
Black Eyed Susie NZ was formed by Susan Colien Reid in 2001. as a rock band featuring Susan's original songs.
From 2006 Black Eyed Susie has primarily been a duo with Ramon Oza who is one of NZ's finest guitarists and a song writer in his own right.
Together they perform most weekends in the lower North Island , and continue to write and record songs with a strong Celtic / Blues / Funk sound.
Carousel was formed in 2000 when father and son duo Peter (guitar) and Eli Mrkusich (mandolin) met Francesca Mountfort (Cello) in a spontaneous street jam session., in Cuba Mall Wellington.The band was joined by Susan Colien-Reid (Violin and vocals) in 2002.
The music has been defined as genre breaking. It combines different styles including; Classical, Rock, Folk, Gypsy jazz to create a truly unique sound. Carousel have performed at Festivals in NZ and Australia including the Apollo festival Melbourne. NZ "Arts on Tour " also took Carousel on a 6 week tour to rural towns throughout NZ . Carousel has two albums , 'Bob N Spin" and "Carousel," featuring only original material written by band members. This is available on a variety of social media platforms including Spotify and U Tube.
